Brand Park is a large area in northwest Glendale. There are many attractions here plus hiking trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas. There are some wonderful views from the hiking trails. The Americana at Brand
The developer of this site, Caruso Affiliated, is responsible for a number of these well-designed and consumer-friendly outdoor shopping areas. These "mediated public spaces" are somewhere between a mall and a public area, though in the final analysis they have more in common with a mall. Glendale Galleria
Faded shopping centers are my cup of tea. I love the dated-ness of them, and the evidence of the human wear on the environment. Brand new shopping center seem to contrived and manipulative to me and there is nothing like questionable design from the '70s and '80s to cure that particular malaise.
